DIVISION OF AGING & LONG TERM CARE SUPPORT

Make a Difference Today

Welcome to the Official Division of Aging and Long Term Care Services

The Division of Aging and Long-Term Care Support (DALTCS)--formerly the Navajo Area Agency on Aging (NAAA) --has the following services for older adults living on the Navajo Nation:  nutrition, transportation, and assistance with payment of eyeglasses, or dentures, or hearing aids via DALTCS Trust Funds. Senior Centers provide meals to older adults and eligible persons with disabilities, including short distance transportation.

In addition to the above services, DALTCS also oversees two programs:  the Navajo Family Caregiver Support Program  and the Foster Grandparent Program.  1) Per AZ Department of Economic Security (DES) Division of Aging and Adult Services Policy, Older Americans Act- Title III and VI Programs,  The Family Caregiver Support Program is intended to provide a multifaceted system of support services for family caregivers caring for their grandparents or older individuals who are family caregivers. For caregivers who informally provide care to older individuals, the program will help sustain their efforts to care for older individuals who have a chronic illness or disability and will promote the ability of older individuals to remain in their homes and local communities instead of being placed in residential facilities.

For grandparents caring for grandchildren, the program will promote retention of these children in a nurturing family environment instead of placement in foster care.  2) The Foster Grandparent Program is part of the AmeriCorps Seniors of the Corporation for National and Community Services, a federal agency of the United States established in 1965 for the purpose of pairing senior citizens with at-risk children. Foster grandparents volunteer their time tutoring and mentoring to enhance the quality of life of children and youth in preschools, Head Start, public schools, private schools, grant schools, and BIE schools.
